HiFi sub in speaker sequence?

Hi everyone, I'm new so apologies for asking a HiFi not AV question but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I thought one of you may have come across this predicament. My HiFi set up, until last week was 2 x 8ohm speakers and a 4ohm sub all connected to the speaker posts of a 2 channel 8ohm amp. Last week I bought some other 8ohm speakers and decided to wire all 4 in sequence parallel. This works fine but the sub was humming. So I've connected the sub from a line out on the amp to the LFE or low level input on the sub using a split RCA. Personally I thought the sub sounded better when it was connected at high level ie. Speaker posts to high level input on sub using a neutrik speakon cable.
So my question is.... Is there a way to connect all 5 speakers incl the sub to just the 4 speaker posts on a 2 channel amp, without humming or overloading anything?

Did you try to keep it the same with sub and just connect the new spakers to the B output?

But with 2 different sets of speakers at the same time and a sub with an integrated amplifier with no bass management it will be extremly difficult or impossible to get it to play very well.

I dont know why the sub hums but have you tested it with both Speaker pairs seperatly?
Through line out you wont get a good crossover to the sub because both speaker pairs will play as full a range as they can and its unlikly they will have the same range so integration with sub cutoff wont be right. Through the speaker connections this is done by the sub which is probably why it sound much better that way.
Two different speaker pairs will work against each other and somewhat make a mess but some people like it. It will also make the amp work a lot harder so be very careful with the volume knob.

Thank you and sorry got waylaid. Yes I've had the sub connected at high level with both sets of speakers and it was fine. I take on board what you've said about the 2 pairs competing somewhat. Thanks for your thoughts.
