Welcome to the forum!

You definitely can do that. There are systems out there that allow you to do this.

One type of system uses an IR receiver and then sends the signal to a series of IR repeaters. One example of that type of system is at the link here.

I believe that you can also get systems that use an RF remote control along with a set of IR emitters (much like the ones in the linked system above). I didn't see one as I did a quick search, but I'm pretty sure that I've seen them.

I think the first choice you want to make is if you want to use all IR or an IR/RF combo. If you want to use your existing remotes you would just get an IR receiver and a control block with flashers like this - Niles Link

If you want to upgrade your remote as well then you could go to a RF/IR system. In this type your remote would output RF to a base station that would convert it to IR and feed to the flashers similar to the link above. The advantage here is that you would not have to point the remote at the IR receiver.

Edit: The link that Adam posted is a very cost effective solution. The Niles I linked is much more expensive and has no real advantage that I can find.

I've done a system with RF/IR and it worked really well. The gear was upstairs in the attic and the speakers in the main room. No issues at all.

Don't forget the matter of thermal management, which is one of the more challenging aspects of enclosing HT electronics-make sure you have adequate ventilation (natural or assisted) so your electronics don't get cooked in the enclosed space.
