yes, just another new guy with lots of questions! ;)
Not a young guy... just coming into retirement years actually. While I've had an interest in home sound and theater systems most of my life, I'd never really had the budget to get more than basic equipment, which was often disappointing...
But finances are looking up! Now a nice home theater / gaming / music system is something I have time, and some resources to pursue! Unfortunately, I don't have the time and resources for years and years of trial and error, and getting the "wrong" equipment.... so here I am, reading and listening, and hoping to avoid some basic mistakes and pitfalls that experience has already taught many of you.

See if you can at least hear the equipment if at all possible. Buying used if you do it judiciously can work. Set your budget and determine where you can get your best bang for buck. If you get something together that works for you don't try to "fix" working stuff. However don't work with marginal stuff. It is cheap for a reason.
