After lurking for a while reading various posts and trying to educate myself on all this I thought I would make my first post today! First, I know just enough about this stuff to be dangerous( meaning not much at all). However, over the years I have been fortunate to obtain IMHO some decent gear:

Hitachi 70" 70vs810
Toshiba HD DVD Player xa2
HK 7300 receiver
Polk monitor 50's/CS1/ fxi3

So here it goes.... I am considering two new upgrades:

1) The cs1 for the cs5 and the monitor 50's for either the rti8's or 10's.

2) Because my HK does not do hdmi; I am considering the Onkyo 805. After reading about the onkyo and comparing feature for feature the two IMO are about the same. Onkyo 130 watts; my 7300 is 125. I believe the onkyo also allows tru hd sound as well.

So please be honest... if it were you; what would you do? I know the monitor 50's are not strong enough for either receiver. Remember, I am very new to this and just looking for some honest feedback from the experts!

Thxs in advance!

Forgot to mention I am also using the Polk 404 Sub.

Welcome to Audioholics.

Hope you have fun here, and gain some knowledge. Are you a Met fan born in "64"? :D

First I would up-grade the speakers, and sub, before I would up-grade the receiver. They will give you the biggest impact on your system.

Thank you!

I was looking at the rti series from Polk; specifically the rti8 or 10 as my fronts. What are your thoughts on these speakers?

As for my user name.... I was born in 64' however, the met is from my favorite band METALLICA!

Thxs again!

Excellent speakers. :D Just make sure you get the matching Center Channel also.

I have often recommended the RTis because of their buck/performance, but it really depends on your ears. I also generally suggest the 8s with a good sub instead of the 10s because of impedance loading issues on the receiver. Your upgrade should definitely include a new sub. What size is your room?

w/out measuring as I am away from home now it is approx. 20x20. However, the plan is in the next six months to move at which time have a bigger room to work with. I am leaning toward the rti8 with the csi5 center right now.

Thxs!

I found the 8's on frys.com for $149 each plus ship/tax total about $400. The 10's on beach audio.com for $585 shipped. Are the 10's worth the extra $$. It seems the prices on this series are dropping; I bet Polk is discontinuing them.

Your thoughts; either 8's or 10's?

Thanks again!

Last question.... (FOR NOW)... with the difference in price (and dropping) basically $200 btween the 8's and 10's; what do u think? My receiver is the hk 7300.... and upgrading my CC to the csi5. I listened to both the 8 and 10
but at that price (today) maybe the 10's are a better buy. BTW... Tweeter was offering the 10's for $479 a pair... problem is Tweeter in my area closed and by the time they shipped it would be over $650.

Thxs again!!

Which speakers sounded better to you?

If you like listening to music the 10's are the way to go. But if you are not into music then the 8's with a good sub will perform fine. But then again after you hear these speakers in your home, you might find listening to tunes a new enjoyment.

I know I did.
