I am trying to figure out how to play xbox on my Hdtv and get 5.1 dolby digital surround at the same time. I bought the HD AV pack but I can only get the 480p picture and I dont know how to get the 5.1 surround. The other AV pack that xbox sells (called the advanced AV pack) lets you get the 5.1 digital but it does not have the component connection to get the 480 HD picture quality. What am I doing wrong? All I want is to be able to get the 480 picture quality and get dolby digital surround at the same time. Help!!!!

The xbox will only support HD (720p or 1080i) for games which are specifically formatted for it (relatively few). It will not support HD video, only 480i which is standard definition. You should not expect a relatively cheap xbox to have the capability of an upconverting DVD player or Roku HD1000 which will put out true HD video.
