HHGREGG Excellent Buying Experience

Recently a chain appliance / electronics franchise called HHGREGG opened all across Florida. I didn't give them much notice b/c of their peculiar name but I recently noticed their pricing was very aggressive on TV's, much better than the local stores like Best Buy for example.

I was getting tired of the dangling wires from my bedroom Plasma display to the FIOS box on our dresser so I decided to remedy that by dismounting the plasma and drilling holes in my walls to hide the various cables. A thought occurred to me that while I had the plasma down, why not sell it on Craigslist and buy a new one? To my surprise I sold my 2 year old Plasma on Craigslist within 2 hours of posting it and got a nice penny for it. Kudos to Craigslist.com!

That night I ran to HHGREGG with the wife to purchase a 42" Panasonic plasma they had on sale for $699 which was about $150 cheaper than Best Buy and about $50 cheaper that the wholesale cost I could purchase it at from the Audioholics E-store! When there, I also spotted the THX Panasonic G15 model which I felt had a slightly better picture to it, and more calibration options. This set retailed for $1300 and they had it on sale for $850 with the floor model on sale for $805. I never buy floor model TV's so I asked the salesman if he could give me the floor model price on a new set. After much deliberation with his manager, he agreed but had non in stock with no future shipments coming since the model was being phased out. Thus I asked him to ship me a unit from their other location in Clearwater and he obliged.

At the same time my wife spotted a floor model Refrigerator which normally sells for $800+. This unit was never plugged in, and was virtually brand new. They gave it to us for $400! Woo ho!, now we have ourselves a Fridge for the garage where we can stockpile meat and beer for more social gatherings :)

I took delivery of these items 2 days later and they followed up twice via email customer surveys to make sure we were happy with our purchases.

It's been a long time since I've purchased electronics from a local retailer and haven't felt like I got ripped off in the process. The salesmen I dealt with at HHGreg were very courteous and pretty knowledgeable to boot.

Anyone in Florida considering purchasing a new TV or appliance, I highly recommend checking them out. They told me they will match or beat any legitimate deal whether local or on the web. Pretty cool!

This is NOT a paid endorsement but a happy customer testimony, which I rarely get to do in this industry since I mostly deal directly with manufacturers.

Glad to hear at least one B&M store is doing something right. Hopefully they learned from Circuit City's mistakes.

We have one opening up in the place of an old closed Circuit City store. Looking forward to checking them out. I have heard on other "deal shopper" forum that they tend to do very well on their pricing.

I bought my Mitsubishi WD-60C9 from them because they had the best local price. I had to wait a couple days because they were out of stock. A week later it dropped another $150 and I just had to walk back in and show my receipt to get the partial refund.

They do sell service plans just like Best Buy, but they seem to be less pushy about it.

Iv'e bought a few things from there including a Panny tv for our preacher. Talk to the salesperson for the best deal. I got the Panny for WAY less than their "sale" price. They will meet or beat any b&m price. They beat Costco's price on a comparable model. At any given time they have special pricing incentives from the mfr and can really give great pricing. It all depends on what deal they have going.
Christmas week they had a coupon on the Panny 60 BD player for $99. I gave the coupon to my sister in law to get for my nephew. One of the nicer places in town to deal with but don't expect them to have all the high end stuff.

I have family members that think I can get them a good deal on a TV b/c of our E-store affiliation. I instead tell them to buy from HHGREG since they will get a better price and it also takes me off the hook for setting it up for them or hearing them b1tch when the picture looks like crap on non HD channels :)

We've had HHGREGG for a long time over here in Ohio. People usually don't like them, since the sales people are commission based, so they follow you around through the store like a puppy....
Also I heard some bad news as far as returns. A friend bought a TV for her mom, it broke and they wouldn't take it back. Just thought I'd give a different point of view.

Funny you should mention that. I was just talking about HHGreg with my father and he told me the same story. He has had one in his are for a long time but doesn't go there for the same reasons you listed. Odd, I have heard good things about them from other sources though.

Bought both our Pannys (one 50" plasma and on 37" LCD) from HHG. Both times at a price low enough to beat local B&M competitors and not make the inherent risks of ID sales/UPS delivery worthwhile!

I had no problems with HHG's service or delivery and would recommend them for TVs. Their audio equipment is fairly limited in selection.

Trying (but failing) to keep my wife away from the home appliance section!

They offered, but did not push the service agreement--as long as the sales guy accepts the first polite "NO" that's Ok with me.

Hmm I am not sure about their return policy either. They seem very vague about it. Here is hoping I don't have any issues with my new Panny Plasma.

I bought an Onkyo HTS7200 Home Theater system from HH Gregg about 3 weeks ago. They had 20% off all TV's and Home Audio equipment.
The % off tv's was off of their Suggested retail price so not much of a deal.
But the % off Home Audio gear was actually off their normal sales price.
So I got the Onkyo for $638 when it normally sold for $799.
Cheapest I found online via pricegrabber.com was like $850.

So I feel I got a great a deal. and yes their salespeople are pushy. However I was in the store for a couple hours hemming and hawing whether to buy the Onkyo or the Yahama and a non-pushy guy came up to me. After answering some of my questions I bougth it through him.

I hope HH Gregg makes it for the retail economy's sake, but with my recent dealings with Emotiva, Outlaw and my friend's with Aperion, I will stick with ID companies from now on for my Audio habit. We did just buy a new washer from Sears (Kenmore).

We're getting one in our area. I checked out the web site, and their selection of audio gear is pathetic. They look to be more of an appliance store than an electronics retailer. Pitty.
