I just read your review on Galileo Visions Telescopes (in the Do-It-Yourself Projects and Hobbies section) and had to laugh. These scopes are junk in the purest sence. Even worse the typical 4-5 inch Newtonian on an equtorial mount is a biginners nightmare. Giving one of these as a gift is the worst thing you could do to a kid that has an budding intrest in astronomy. They will certainly be frustrated, dissapointed and in the end give up the hobby.

Quite frankly your homebuilt 6 inch should have blown this telescope away, even if you used off the shelf optics. As for your primary mirror cell not being as easy to adjust as this one, thats your own fault. Did you even look at basic mirror cell designs before you built yours? I built a 6 inch and made a simple mirror cell out of two peices of plywood seperated by springs and held together by 1/4-20 screws. Adjusting the primary is as easy as turning three wing nuts on the back of the cell.

Besides Orion sells a 6 inch f8 Dobsonian for under $300 , and when it comes to telescopes SIZE MATTERS  not bells and whistles. Also a dobsonian is a far better beginner telescope than any equitorial mounted telescope, simply because of the ease of setup and use.
