What is your budget and how big is your room? The sub is the weak link.

Surfnsnow,

Welcome to the forum :), more info on restrictions/limitations would help folks craft some useful suggestions:

1) Why are you leaning towards an in-ceiling solution vs either an in-wall or stand alone speakers? (WAF, asthetics, small children, etc.)

2) As stated earlier, a ball-park budget would really help.

3) Concerning music, is system going to be for critical listening (or build to this eventually) or just general background music (ambiance, parties, etc.)?

4) Concerning movies, is system going to be your primary home theater or an alternate/convienent place to watch a movie now and then?

5) What is the room like, dimensions (including ceiling height), openings to other rooms, and any other characteristic which may affect sound or video (e.g. cathedral ceiling, large window, hard surface floor, etc.)?

Look forward to hearing more about your project.

I am not worried about the sub, I wasn't even going to get one in the first place. Plus I am getting a "decent" one for 25 bucks now. I am happy with that. Thanks for the advice tho.

1. In ceiling because of, well it's a long story, I know, I know they aren't as good as in wall or other options but that's what I am going with so I gotta stick with that. Hope you understand.

2. I am getting everything listed above for 600, so that budget is perfect. Let's say 600-700.

3. Music, not critial listening. Just basic listening for parties, etc. No rocking out or anything.

4. Primary home theater

5. Ceiling 10 feet high. Living room 15X15 feet. It is open and leads to about the same size kitchen, maybe slightly bigger. Also leads to an open hallway.

Any other questions ask, I want this to be as perfect as possible.

THANKS!

I'd be worried, in-wall speakers don't have much low frequency performance. A subwoofer for home theater is a must unless you where getting some freestanding speakers with some good low end punch.

If it is mainly for background music, I think it will be fine. The Polks don't sound bad, but good bass from in-wall/in ceiling speakers is generally an issue. You can always upgrade the sub down the road though, if it is an issue. For home theater, a good sub can play a larger role though. On a budget, the Dayton Sub100 from www.partsexpress.com for $140 might be worth looking into, but for $25, the "mystery" sub will be a LOT easier on the budget :)

The "mystery sub" I am getting for $25 is the Yamaha YST-SW215. It does not have bad reviews at all and for the price, I can't beat it. Now that you have the sub, am I good with that???

It will work, but you may want to upgrade in the future.
