Hello -
Fairly new to the forum as well as new to HEOS. Twice in the past 3 days the app stopped during playback and would not restart or play any new song. Both times the remedy has been to unplug my processor (Marantz 7705) for roughly 30 seconds and after plugging back in, the app worked again.

After a little reading up, could it have been auto updates to the app happening during playback causing the app to essentially stop (saying stop, as its not freezing. I'm able to go in and try to restart song/pick another song, but it just attempts to play, and stops).

Anybody else encounter this? The 7705 was purchased new from Music Direct in early December, so hopeful its not the processor...and given the HEOS app is also pretty poorly implemented, it does seem like that would be the issue.

Thanks in advance.

Dollars to donuts it's the app. I use HEOS via my Denon 4300 and an assortment of HEOS speakers daily, sometimes for hours at a time. Mostly, it works as advertised. Occasionally, gremlins inexplicably take over. Fix is usually a reset.

Got it! Thanks for the feedback.

Having a slightly older Denon, not familiar with HEOS and trying to understand how it works. You need HEOS to simply stream to/thru the main unit? Is the app mentioned for a phone/tablet?

Denon/Marantz have installed HEOS in their receivers for several years- it works the same as an outboard unit WRT being a stand-alone or grouped with other zones. Yes, the app is installed on a phone or tablet, or the equipment can be controlled via IR or IP.

As usual, it works best if the equipment is hard wired.

And you must stream thru HEOS now rather than particular apps within the processor?

AFAIK, Spotify is the only provider that requires streaming TO HEOS, but I haven't used one in a while. The rest (I would recommend looking at the HEOS info on the D&M sites or in YouTube videos) will stream through HEOS, with control done by the handheld device.

HEOS has been flawless for me, on my 4400 and 3500, but granted I don't use it all the time. I do think it is an awesome feature, just incredibly simple and a real Denon selling point to me.

One time, I accidentally connected to the Denon in the living room when I thought I connected to the Denon in my man cave. Needless to say, the wifey and the dogs were NOT happy with me blowing out their eardrums while I was trying to figure out why I wasn't getting audio in my room. Now, I have the max volume limit set on both devices!

Can you tell me the steps you go through to make your own playlists on the App? So far I've been stuck with the preset playlists (some are very very good), and or searching myself. Problem is if I want to add say a song to a playlist that I want to create, I cant do it? Thanks!

Well, my first bit of advice is to not unplug your receiver and plug it back in. If the Marantz is like my Denon all you have to do is hold down the power button and it will 'reset' the unit which reestablishes the wifi connection and that fixes several issues including the flaky HEOS issues for me. Your mileage may vary.

The HEOS app leaves a lot to be desired. I've used it on Andriod and Apple IOS now and it's about the same. There are varying levels of functionality based on streaming service. Tidal will allow you to create a queue and add songs, albums, etc. and Amazon will not - which it says is from the Amazon end and maybe that's true idk.

What I've noticed is that if I'm using my internet connection to UPLOAD something it is the biggest pain with the HEOS freezing up and refusing to DOWNLOAD a stream selection or it chokes and skips to the next song. I'm also often using higher bitrate streams using HEOS so maybe that has an impact.

That said, I've LOVED having HEOS built in to stream Amazon HD Ultra straight into my receiver. I've never listened to so much music in my lifetime and I was into MP3 since it was first popping up on personal FTP servers advertised on MiRC forums in like 1997. Several years before Napster existed.

I gladly pay a monthly fee to get whatever I want in high resolution and keep the cops off me. I've just never really been a huge fan of Pandora, Spotifiy, etc. I don't know why. Give me high resolution streaming all day long though.

It would be nice if they put more money into polishing up the HEOS interface and functionality. ROON seems ridiculously expensive for someone who doesn't have a gigantic hoard of pirated digital music.

One of the big reasons I went from DM to Y = WiFi Remote (AV Controller) and WiFi Music Streaming App (MusicCast). :D
