I just bought a house that has speakers in the ceiling already and outlets in the walls for them. there are four sets of two, they are gold tips and they unscrew out to the end and there is a hole underneath the gold tip The problem is I have no idea how to set up my TV and DVR to these. What do I need and what do I need to do. Can someone tell me the basic setup I need

For starters you'll need a receiver to process the signals from your TV, DVR, DVD, etc. and power the speakers. Do you have any idea what brand of speakers they are or model #? It sounds like you may also want a center channel speaker. Once you have the receiver, you'll connect its speaker outputs to the wall inputs.

Let me know if you receive this response because threads in this forum don't stay up very long.

Those wall plates accept banana plugs, but of course you could just unscrew it and wrap bare wire around it too.

Now I'm betting your house is just like mine and the installer didn't label a damn thing. You will either have to use trial and error by attaching the wires from the receiver to the wall plates to find out which wire goes to which speaker or you could buy a tone and probe generator like the LanTracker ($40- Home Depot) to trace the wires.
