I'm currently trying to order new cables. I need the advisefrom my AH family to use my theater to the optimal potential. The list:

Direct Tv HD box
Onkyo tx-nr801
Panasonic Dvd-s77
Samsung-R5667 DLP

please advise me to what cables to get and how to hook them up. Also, I have a Universal MX-500 remote coming.
Thank You

we can give you some ideas, but without knowing how long the cables need to be, it's going to be up to you to improvise a little:

DVD to TV- I would recommend you use an HDMI to HDMI. You have the connections on both ends, and something like this would work pretty well:

or, a little better,

You would also need a fiber optic (or "Toslink") cable to get sound to your receiver (see http://www.thetwistergroup.com/product/AP-081 D00040.html )

PLEASE NOTE: You didn't give a model number on the dish box, so I'm guessing it has a DVI jack, but not an HDMI jack. If the dish box has an HDMI jack, use the HDMI for the dish box.

Dish to TV- I would recommend you use the DVI on the box to the DVI on the TV.

you'll also need an optic cable (if the box has a jack) or a decent set of RCA cables to get the sound from the cable box to the receiver, and then a second set to go from the receiver to the TV.

two sets of these should do the trick if there is no optic cable jack

this will get you the most simple set-up, where all the video goes to video and all the audio to the receiver. if you want to do your switching through the receiver, it would be more complicated, and I don't think an 801 has HDMI or DVI connections, so you would be wasting your best possible picture.

good luck. by the way, I don't work for the twister group, you can get similar products at parts express, accessories4less, and in many cases, decent stuff from your local Walmart and Lowe's without resorting to the M word.

opti is a better connection than the RCA jacks.

I would use the HDMI on the cable for one reason... odds are you are more likely to use cable without the sound system and HDMI will carry the sound right to your TV. This would let you use the TV speakers without using the sound system.

In that case, you would need an HDMI to DVI cable to go from the DVD player to the TV, something like this:

please note that DVI is a purely video signal and you would need the sound system whenever you use the DVD player.

I'm a little confused, I only have one dvi/hdmi input on the tv and you are suggesting that I go hdmi(dvd) to dvi(tv) and the hdmi(cable) to hdmi(tv) with only one input. Can you please clarify. Thanks alot.

my bad... shopping.com reports the 5667 to have one each HDMI and DVI jack.

With only one HDMI input, the solution you show would work very well, except I would run the component video from the box directly to the receiver. Since you wouldn't be using the receiver for video switching, there's nothing to gain by going through it.
