So heres the deal. I got my HK avr-330 today from harmonaudio.com and hooking up just the front 2 channels and nothing else, I connected a source (coaxial from my computer) to the reciever and turned it on. The problem i'm having is that the reciever is emmiting a buzzing sound out into the speakers. I can still hear the music from the source if i turn the reciever up enough. No matter what volume setting its a constant buzz at the same sound level. Ive disconnected everything that I think could interfere. Ive even tried to run it on multiple outlets with no luck. Is this a reciever problem? or can I try something else to fix it? Thanks.

P.S. Now that i think about it, its more of a hmm than a buzz.

Sounds like the line you've ran, if you cut the coax yourself and put the cheap twist on ends on, you probobly have a ground touching. That or probobly just cheap cabling in general. I'd double check by just running a pair of cheap rca's you have laying around and see if you have the same problem.
I get a buzz on my line once in a while from my pc on my HK, but thats only cause i rigged a temp line to it (i use my pc to projector for hd projection, sound ran to reciever). The cat likes to chew on the line so every now and then I have to play with it where she knolled it up. Then the hum goes away. Check to make sure that you have your digital coax assigned to the right setup, as that too will create problems.

ill try using standard rca connections. However, i also hooked up the dvd player using an optical cable to the same result, more hum.

What happens when you unplug the cable from the computer? Is this buzz/whatever, for sure is coming from the speakers, not a mechanical noise from the receiver? It almost sounds like a ground loop issue but let us know what happens when you unplug the cable from the computer.

Ive unplugged the cable from the computer and it doesnt make any difference, it still buzzes even with no inputs. I also tested everything using my headphones and the heaphone jack to no avail. Im going to try it on my friends power conditioning equipment soon to see if thats the problem but I dont really think its going to help much.

p.s. not mechanical. i cant hear anything unless i put the headphones on and listen to only the reciever output.

Well then when this buzz is on when you only have the speakers connected, nothing else input to the receiver, and through the headphone as well, it sounds like the receiver has issues. Have you contacted the maker yet?

update:

Contacted HK today and they e-mailed me a pre-paid shipping label so i sent the unit back this afternoon after they gave me a RMA number. They said they check all the units before they leave and that it might have been damaged in shipment. They are exchanging it so hopefully the next one will work great. On a side note, I was really impressed with the quality when I cranked it and drowned out the buzz note. hehe. I could really tell the difference between it and my Panasinic XR-25 using my Sennheiser HD555 headphones.
