Help! Yamaha Int Amp

I need some help guys. I just hooked up an old Yamaha DSPA2070 integrated amp. I'm only using the main channels and the center channel. The problem is the system will work fine (20 minutes or a few hours) and then the sound will cut out on 1 or 2 of the channels. Suddenly the center channel might cut out or the left or right channel might stop. Then they might come back on again after 10-30 seconds then off again. It sucks!

I checked all connections. I sprayed contact cleaner on all connections and have even changed speaker cable. For whatever reason it seems to occur when I'm watching a video source. I've been listening to the tuner hooked up for an hour now without any problems. I listened to a few cd's this morning without a problem. Watching tv and watching a dvd problems occurred.

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the forum!

First thing that popped into my mind was that it might be overheating. The experiment that I'd try is to put a fan blowing over the top of it, make sure that it's keeping cool, and then see if it shuts off while you're watching a video. If not, then it's getting too hot. If it is getting too hot, there are ways to fix that (like giving it more space around it for air flow or putting a small muffin fan on it).

Thanks for the tip. However, heat isn't an issue. It sits on its own shelf with 7" of space above it and open space all around it. I'm using bare wire to hook it up but that shouldn't be an issue either. Damn, I was really hoping this unit would work. It still sounds great.

Just for grins, how is the audio connected to this for the TV and DVD?
Since it only happens with those two sources, heat, wire, etc cannot be the issue, otherwise the issue would be there regardless of source.
Also, is the video routed through this unit?
