help with Yahama HTR-6130

I have a yamaha HTR-6130 receiver. My Samsung smart TV is connected to a Rogers PVR cable box. I want the tv sound connected to the receiver or directly to the TV. I do not need anything else connected. When I turn on the cable box and tv I want the sound to come from the surround sound. Can i connect the receiver directly to my tv or does it need to be connected to the cable box. What cable should I use for only sound?

You can use HDMI, from cable box directly to TV. This will give you the best picture quality and sound from TV speakers when you don't want surround sound.

The 6130 does not process HDMI Audio. To get surround sound via the 6130, you will need to connect the cable box optical or coax output to one of the inputs on the receiver.
