Hi, my first post and a total HI-FI newby.
I have purchased a Marantz PM6004 amp and want to connect my Pro-Ject deck to it. When connected to the amp I am getting a lot of hum through the speakers. I have followed some advice and bought a Pro-Ject Phono box "MM" pre amp but sadly still get a lot of hum from the speakers. Can any one please advise what I need to do to rectify? I am missing my vinyl. My system is a Pro-Ject Debut Turntable, Marantz PM6004 amp, a Marantz CD6004 CD player and Wharfedale Diamond floor standers.
Many thanks and if this is really basic....sorry, I am very new to this.

Try checking your connections. Make sure that they are really tight. Also try to keep your wires from crossing each other. Finally double check your ground wire. Hopefully this free and simple check will resolve your problem.
Good listening,
Mike

Is there a turntable ground to connect to the Marantz grounding pin? If there is use it.

If that does not worm check the grounding all the way to the cartridge, with an ohm meter.

Turntables are simple and we should be able to talk you through this.

Many thanks for your help. I checked the grounding was connected tightly and still no difference. Will purchase an ohms tester and check. Really grateful for your help.

Thanks for your advice. All wires are now "uncrossed" and checked grounding too, no difference sadly. Very grateful for your advice. Thanks

"all wires uncrossed"? In particular, make sure no power cables are running parallel to the signal (RCA) connections. Try to keep these as far away from each other as feasible. Otherwise, it is almost certainly a grounding issue....somewhere.

Many thanks for your advice, I will check that the power cables are moved away from the signal connections. BTW "all wires uncrossed" was a prior suggestion that I received suggesting that my wires might be piled on top of each other (they were in places!)

I ma very grateful for your advice, thanks.

Get your ohm meter.

This will come down to either a break in the turntable wiring (most likely) or a failed cartridge.

If the wiring is all in order, then you need a new cartridge.
