Ok..if I follow you correctly...

VCR (1): This will have the video tapes that you want to record FROM (AKA. Source)

VCR (2): This will have the (blank) video tape that you want as your highlight tape

Take your Video and L/R Audio from the output on VCR 1 to the inputs of VCR 2, then take the outputs from the VCR 2 to the TV.

That should work!

Define 'not working'.

- Can you see the image on the tv? If not, is the tv on the correct input? If you plugged the audio and video into video1 on the tv, for example, you need to change the tv's input to video 1. This is usually accomplished with a button on the remote labeled 'tv/vcr' or 'tv/vid'. When you press that button on the remote or on the tv itself, it should show tv, video1, video 2, etc (depending on how many inputs it has).

It's also possible that the tv needs to be tuned to a specific channel. If there is no tv, video1, video2 input menu, then you may need to consult the tv manual to see what channel it needs to be on. An old Proscan I used to have required you to tune to channel 93 to view the video from any device connected to its video1 input.

- On the recording vcr, you may need to change its input as well. The display will usually read 'line' or 'line in'. This is because the inputs on the back of the vcr are line level inputs. If the vcr is displaying a channel number, it will be expecting to receive a signal on the cable/rf input (the one you use to connect cable tv from the wall).

- If your tv has both audio/video inputs AND outputs, you can connect the playback vcr to the tv's input and the recording vcr to the tv's outputs (from the tv audio/video OUT to the recording vcr IN). As long as you set the input on the tv and recording vcr correctly (see above) you should be able to see the video from the playback vcr and record it to the recording vcr.

A much better and easier way of doing things would to be to find a friend with a mini-DV camera, or digital-8 camera and record everything onto one of those tapes, then capture it into a computer. In the computer you can grab and edit every little section of the video and lay it out exactly as you want it. If you don't like something, you can move it or change the speed, or change it to black and white... You can do wipes, fades, lay a soundtrack in place, and you have basically no quality loss at all because it is all digital.

ASK AT YOUR SCHOOL! There is quite possibly some editing facilities and a teacher or two who is willing to give you a hand with this. There are also excellent websites that will get you up and running on how to do this very quickly. The cost for a firewire card for your PC - if you don't already have one - is well under 100 bucks and will include some editing software to use.

I did exactly what you said and exactly what the other guy said......i see the the tape when i play it for the playback vcr......and i put the blank tape in the recording vcr and press record........nothing records i switched up the vcrs it still dosent work.....both of these are working good vcrs that are not old.......but when i just try to play the tape it can only play on video 1 not t.v

You are calling the correct VCR the playback VCR and the right one the record VCR correct?

The first VCR in the chain should be the playback VCR (call it VCR1). This is the one that is connected to the 'VIDEO IN' input on the second VCR (VCR2) - not the one connected to the TV. When you put a tape into that VCR and press play, you should see it on the TV. If you don't, then something is amiss. The VCR connected to the TV - the recording VCR (VCR2) must be on the line 1 input or the 'VIDEO' input. Whatever that VCR calls it. Then the TV must be on the 'VIDEO IN' input or 'LINE 1' input.

That should do it. Double check your connections and make sure you see playback when you play a tape in VCR1.

Oh - and you will be much happier learning about doing this on a PC. :)
