Hi i have an STR DE 895 Sony receiver an a set of 6.1 speakers, from sony too.

My first question is about the subwoofer. There's a coach blocking it about 19,5 inches of distance.

Is that a problem? I didnt notice any difference in the sound with the coach in front of it.

My second question regards of the surround speakers. They're all at ear level and and dont know the best arrangment for it.

Should i put the surrounds left and right behind me or in the sides for the best audio immersion?

Thanks !!

Welcome to the forums!

Regarding your subwoofer placement, don't worry about a couch being in the way. The frequencies a subwoofer produces are known as omni-directional, meaning you should hear them from all directions. The biggest thing to keep in mind regarding subwoofer placement is that the closer to a corner you place the sub the louder it will typically sound. If you search the forums you'll find many helpful thoughts on proper placement.

Here's a diagram showing the recommended layout for dolby digital:

Your front speakers should roughly have the tweeter at ear level when sitting down, and the rear speakers should be placed to either side of your listening position, ideally about 2-3 feet higher then the fronts. Since it's a 6.1 set up you should place the surround back speaker basically opposite the center channel, also 2-3 feet higher (matching the other surround speakers).

Let me know if you have other questions, and enjoy the sound!

Thanks man ! I will avoid the corners with the subwoofer.

About the surround speakers, i'm afraid that i can't place them above my ears.

Although the pic says to place them in the sides as the best layout, i have to consider that they wont be above my ears in my room.

In that case, should i still choose the side layout, or the back would be best?

Is there any loss in immersion keeping the surround speakers at the same height of the front speakers?

Thanks again
