Help with Selection

I would like to request your enlightened guidance on my choice of new receiver / amp setup. My current speakers are:

Definitive Tech 7000sc's (Front)
Definitive Tech C/L/R 3000 Center
Definitive Tech BPVX/P's for the Rear channels

My current setup is a Denon 3803 Receiver and a Denon DVD-2900

The Denon just doesn't seem to have the umpfh to power the speakers. They sound great, but you have to really push that receiver to get theater level sound while watch a movie (large viewing room) (receiver at ~15db setting).

I have a set of Definitive Tech Powermonitor 900's for my computer speakers currently powered by an Onkyo receiver. I'd like to move the 3803 to my computer, and buy a replacement. I think the DVD-2900 is sufficient for now.

I'd be willing to spend 5-6K for an receiver or preamp / amp combo. Less would do, but that's my upper target goal for now if needed. I've thought about waiting for the 5805, but I'm not sure. Considered the McIntosh MHT-200, but I'm not sure that's worth the cash.

No immediate need, I would be willing to wait up to say 6 months if something new is on the horizon that looks good.

I appreciate all the help,

Joseph

I concur with Kode3. B&K makes some nice stuff. What you might want to try is to use the 3803 as your pre-amp & hook an outboard amp (the B&K-7250 comes to mind) to it & see how that sounds. For $2-$3k your problem may be solved. No use in throwing away the performance of the Denon due solely to the lack of power. Most stores will let you demo a model @ home for as long as a month.

Good point, strange I never thought of that since it's what I do (Denon 3805, and B&K ST125.2)
I agree that's a good idea, and a great way to save some money.

:) Thanks for the suggestion, I'll take a look into that setup. I'd love to save some bucks on the system, but is there any downside to using the 3803 as a preamp?
