Help with replaceing JBL E250P for < $500

Okay, I have a new set of Axiom M22i on their way to replace my JBL HLS 615s (speakers I love, so let's hope the Axioms live up to the hype) and the Axiom VP150 to replace my HLS Center (a speaker I have always hated).
Now, to replace the sub, a JBL E250P. To be honest, I am pretty happy with this sub, though I do find it a bit boomy and it does not drop quite as low as I would like it to go (It is pretty good for films, not so hot for music)
My room is about 440 sqft with 8ft ceiling.
I almost bought the EP500 from Axiom until I shook myself awake and realized I am not spending over $1k on a sub. So for around $500 I have been looking at:
1. HSU VTF-1
2. SVS PB12-NSD
3. SVS PB10-NSD
4. Outlaw LFM-1 Plus
5. Axiom EP175
6. Keeping my existing sub

I want really clean, non boomy bass. I don't care if it is loud, just clean and mates will with the Axiom M22is. I know I will probably get about 8 different suggestions, but I like to stick to the 7 above. If I will not see a HUGE difference between options 1-6 and 7, I just assume keep my current sub.
Thanks in advance for all the help and advice. I am a long time reader, first time poster! :)

I haven't heard the EP175 or the LFM-1 Plus, but I'd have to say 1, 2 or 3 would easily best the JBL in just about every category. I would imagin 4 and 5 will also be improvements.

The SVS PB12-NSD is probably about your best bet. I probably goes the lowest, the bass should be pretty tight if set up correctly. Note that the SVS is quite large, in the 70-80 pound range, so shipping won't be exactly cheap.

Of the ones you list, i'd vote for the PB12-NSD.

Curious as to why you are considering the Hsu VTF-1, but not the VTF-2 MK3 ($499)?

Thanks for the great recommendations...

I decided to go with the PB12-NSD.. got to the shipping: $250!!

Ummm, check. On of the great 'joys' of living in Hawaii.

Just got an e-mail back from HSU: The shipping cost for VTF1 is $132.29

So again, I am paying almost half to cost of the sub just to get it here.
I will be back on the mainland in Aug for my next tour, maybe I will just wait until then. That said, thanks for all the feedback and I would still like to keep this discussion open.

No one think the E250P is with keeping? Other subs sound that much better?

compared to the pb12nsd, you'll $ht your pants :D
:D Awesome. Got your private message, Mike. System would not let me respond cuz I only have 2 postings on here (need 5).
Anyhoo, agree about Axiom, they seem a lot more expensive for what they are. I beginning to wonder if I should cancel my order for the M22s and VP150 to replace my JBL HLS 615s (the JBL center blows, so I am sure the Axiom will be better, just is it worth $400)

Actually I am considering both. The guy at HSU recommended both. He said if I listen to a lot of classical (which I do) the VTF-2 is a better fit. If it is just movies and rock, the VTF-1 will be fine. Shipping to HI is $180 (VTF-2) and $132

May want to consider the SVS SB12-Plus. It's smaller and lighter (40lbs vs. 74lbs for the PB-12) and it has a better driver. I've seen them on the b-stock page for $599 quite often. With the sub price + shipping, you'd break about even with one of the others and end up with a better sub to boot...

The price you pay for living in paradise... :)
