Help with Pioneer VSX919 AV Set Up

Completely new to this world and at my wits end with setting up the AV, a pioneer VSX919. It calibrates fine and all the speakers seem to be hooked up right and result shows ok. But I am not getting surround sound i.e. some sounds are coming mainly from the front speakers. Have tried all audio options - set on adv surround sound, drama/actions etc. Both TV and Blue Ray are hooked up via HDMI. Can anyone shed any light, please!

Welcome to the forum!

Not all shows have surround sound, and even when they do, the rear speakers don't tend to have nearly as much audio as the front speakers. It could be that something isn't set up right, but I wanted to mention that because your system might also be working perfectly fine.

What blu-ray(s) are you using to try out the system?

Thanks Adam, for your reply. I was playing Gran Torino and I could not hear half the conversation. When I test the speakers with the mic all the speakers respond and the calibration result shows ok.

I recall someone else having the same issue with that movie, so it might just be the audio track on that disc. Do you have another movie that you can try?
