So I've never really been much into the whole home theatre system (more into car audio) so I'm pretty new to it all. However, I've recently picked up a Samsung LN55C610N (55 inch LCD) and I find myself hating the sound it puts out. So naturally I came looking for a solution. Now I'll preface all this by saying I'm in an apartment with a pretty spacious living room with hardwood floors (will get a few rugs, but all in all I expect hiding wires to be a pain, hence the soundbar). The living room is 16x19 with a 10ft gap in the wall for the dining room and 6FT windows along the left side wall. Also, the couch is about 13ft away from the TV, so any speakers would have to go near it (I assume, forgive my ignorance).
Oh and my current equipment is pretty basic: PS3 (HDMI), Computer (VGA currently, moving to HDMI), PS2 (Component), and Verizon Fios HD DVR. Maybe I'll snag an Xbox 360 at some point.
So because of the aformentioned setup I kinda set my eyes on a sound bar. I did have a good listen to the Bose Cinemate system and was pretty set on it...but $800 makes me kinda reluctant as Im sure that money could produce something better or I could save by going with something else. Also I looked into the Yamaha 2200, but someone mentioned it relies on the walls to do its job so I figure thats not an option due to the gap and the windows.
With all things considered including neatness of wiring, ease of placement, spacial area, and sound quality...what are my options? I'd like to keep things around 4-600 or so but wouldnt scoff at 800 if it made sense and was worthwhile. I'm not throwing out the idea of a full receiver setup with 5 speakers, but I cringe at the thought of having to run the wires and placement of the speakers...

Would this equal the bose in terms of 5.1 Emulation and quality? Or is that type of emulation not possible without one of those niche soundbar products?
