Help with my speaker positions

I'm looking for better positions of setting up my speakers, if possible. I have them set up in my bedroom right now, so it's kind of confined on the space. I did take pictures of how I have everything set up right now. If anyone has some better ideas, please throw em at me. I have the gain on the subs pretty low, along with on the receiver itself and they seem to overpower just about everything. I know my speakers are cheap, but I only have so much money to spend when in college.

Go symmetrical would be my initial thought. Corner systems are pretty tough. If things have to look as close to it is right now, then I would consider dropping some speakers, at least for experimenting. I like pic #5 as an experimental point for the positioning of left main (then even try flipping it upside down), particularly if you insist on still using the center speaker, for instance. Hmmmmmm . . . if that bookshelf in the closet is meant to be your side surround, hmmmm it's so far in front of you, and the the right side surround is so close to you, much more behind in angle . . . hmmmm . . . .

Pic #5 is the one in the closet isn't it? I'm not sure how well a main would fit in there. Unless I'm counting differently than you did.

-I'm moving into my own apartment actually in a week now, only for a year long job during school though. So I'm thinking about taking some speakers down there, probably only enough for a 5.1 though, I don't wanna haul all the speakers there and back.

You're counting right. I did a poor job of implying that I would even go so far as to consider using a bookshelf as your main speaker, if the placement possibility happens to sound dramatically superior. It all sort of depends. You would have better spread, and perhaps suffer less issues from having your bed blocking the speakers out. I also put into consideration that when using a center speaker, it seems that it will have to be rather high, so that relatively large vertical offset to the center might give you funky results. This is not entirely unrelated to my suggestion of flipping the bookshelf upside down. If you did so, how do you implement the other bookshelf as right main? That I don't know.

I still think symmetrical setup should be the first thing you should investigate, if you really care about this.

Oh I see. I'm trying to get my dad to set it up in our basement since he has a Bose system in the main room and thinks it's godly beyond belief.

What about setting the speaker right in front of my receiver as the right side main? It would be lower, but about the same distance away depending where I am in the bed obviously.

I think you have way too many speakers in a place where you don't have room for em. I'd just run with a 2.1 setup until you get more space...but if you really want to use all the speakers, go with what josten is saying.
