I'm doing a HT for my parents new home... the room has a lot of windows is the only problem... we are going to get some very thick blinds to deal with them... this is what I had planned... does anyone see a problem?

Grimis,

Yes, you'll do much better with the loudspeakers firing the longer way down the room. The main problem is having a wall so close behind you. That's where the inevitable peaks and deep nulls are always the worst.

I'd set up with the speakers on the right pointing toward the left. Then put the seating about 38 percent of the way back from the front wall you face while watching. Second best is 38 percent from the wall behind.

People obsess over glass, but it's no big deal. Glass reflects a little more at higher frequencies than sheetrock, but it's not totally different from sheetrock. More to the point, most loudspeakers don't radiate much sound out the rear, and what little does go in that direction is below 300 Hz or so. At those frequencies glass and sheet rock reflect more or less the same.

That room is a wonderful size and shape. So the importance of having the speakers fire the longer way is less than with a room only 8 by 10 or so. But it will still be better to rotate 90 degrees if you can.

I wish I could... but out of those windows is the one hell of a view... parents nor anyone with a pulse could justify covering the windows. Thanks for the help... how much am i going to lose with the setup now?

You don't have to cover anything. Glass behind the loudspeakers is no big deal in most cases, unless you have speakers that send sound equally out the rear.

The only way to know is to measure both ways. Click HERE to see a graph showing the difference between long and short orientations. Though the room measured is quite a bit smaller than yours.

TV and speakers would block the view out of the windows... i'm not going to do a projector and a screen. there will be a 56 incher or so
