Help with Marantz receiver

For reasons unknown to me, my Marantz SR 7000 receiver must be set on VCR1 when we watch TV. I guess it's because our cable box runs through our VCR. Regardless, I installed a Harmony remote last night and somehow when fiddling with my old remote managed to screw up the audio for my TV. I have to crank the volume up to the max in order to get a minimum level of sound. However, the other functions like the tuner work properly. Any idea how to get the VCR sound fixed? Thanks.

My initial guess would be that you are using the variable audio outs from the cable box to the vcr and the cable box volume is low. VCRs often have variable audio outs too. You need to use the fixed audio outs. [On most cable boxes, this is a setting in the setup menu]

Most TVs also have an option for fixed or variable out as well. If you don't have fixed outs on the VCR, try turning the VCR volume up. How do you have the VCR connected? A simple solution would be to run the audio directly from the cable box to the receiver so the VCR isn't interfering with the sound in any way.

I have had the same problem, but it had to do with my TV: do you have a headphone option in your VCR or TV? I turned that down once and the sound went down too, even though my cables are not attached to the headphone out.
