Help with HT/Audio set up including existing equipment

I'm trying to get an HT/Audio up and running with about 50/50 home theater and music ratio.

Here's what I currently have:

Onkyo TX-SR706 (2008 model, brand new refurbished in box)
Panasonic 50" HD plasma TC-P50G10 (5 or 6 years old)
Alesis Two Studio Reference Monitor (20 years old - features below)

  • 150W continuous program (200W peak)
  • Exclusive SuperPort™ speaker venting technology

  • 10" low frequency driver

  • 5" mid- frequency driver

  • 1" silk-dome high frequency driver

  • Crossover: 1500Hz and 6kHz, combination 2nd order, 3rd order, asymmetrical design

  • Frequency range: 40Hz to 18kHz +/- 3dB

  • Connectors: 5-way binding posts on .75" centers

  • Dimensions: 14" x 14" x 20" high.

  • Weight: 34 lbs. each

  • 4 Ohms

Adcom GFA-545 Amp (20+ years old)
Size of room is 20' x 13'

What I'm thinking of incorporating to get this system set up is the following:

Use the Adcom to power the Alesis Studio Monitors, purchase an SVS PB-2000 or similar sub and then use the Onkyo receiver to power additional center/surround speakers in the future.

I also would like to stream music from my iphone and since my Onkyo receiver is an older model and not capable of acheiving this, I was considering purchasing the Definitive Technology W Adapt which would allow me to do this (I think) and is part of DT's new wireless collection. I'm very interested in this collection. Or is there a cheaper way to achieve the music streaming through my receiver?

If I go this route, the only purchase I would need to make right now would be a new sub ($800) and the Definitive Technology W Adapt ($400) or approximately $1,200. Then I can purchase the center/surrounds in the future.

Or is there a better way to accomplish the above with spending approximately $1,200 or less.

All thoughts and suggestions of achieving this are appreciated.

Nice TV - I have the same one. :)

There are a lot of different streaming solutions out there, many of which cost less than $400. For example, the Apple TV supports AirPlay for $99. I imagine that several folks here can offer even less expensive solutions. Google's Chromecast got an update recently to allow local streaming from Android devices, and there might be a third party app that supports iOS (I don't know) - and it costs less than Apple TV. Some blu-ray players allow DLNA streaming, too.

So this would be a way of streaming music from my iphone through my older Onkyo receiver?

Forgive me as I'm pretty naive to everything here! TIA

The Apple sight says that the Apple TV will let you stream content from your iPhone. It doesn't explicitly say that you can stream music from your iPhone, but I bet you can look that up online. You can stream music from iTunes for sure, though.
