help with home theater

I am looking to build a home theater system for my basement. I don't have the dimensions but it is pretty big. I will be listening to probably 60 percent music 40 percent movies. I want to listen to both pretty loud so I am scared of pushing my speakers too hard. I don't have a budget or anything because I just buy whatever whenever I have enough money and I come across a good deal.

so far i have

5.0 energy take 5 classic speakers -140
2 polk vm30 speakers- 376 for both
2 asw-10 subwoofers from the speaker company- 160 for both

That is a total of 7.2 but I plan on getting my energy center channel replaced with a vm 20 that I can get for 100 dollars.

Now my question is what receiver should I get? I am looking at the sr607 but can that use Dolby Pro Logic IIz to play 9.2 or do I have to chose if I want the top front speakers to play or the rear speakers? Also if it can only do 7.2 can I use an amp to power the other 2 speakers?

If it can't actually do 9.2 what receivers that are not way more expensive can? Also is is possible to connect 2 receivers or something to do 11.2?

If I can do 9.2 I will by 2 Polk vm 20s and use those on top of my vm30s

Finally I plan on buying a butt kicker lfes since I assume my 2 subwoofers will not be powerful enough for my basement.

Most .2 based receivers use 1 crossover so dont really put to much stalk into that aspect. If you want to run "9" speakers get an AVR with Audyssey DSX As for the butt kickers, imo it would be better to sell the subs, skip the butt kickers, and get a really strong sub that plays well into the 120hz range to compensate for your speakers low HZ output.

9.xx, at some point more speaker just will not matter. Spend the money towards better speakers and subs, and room treatments.

"Pretty big" doesn't tell us much. The dimensions of the room will directly affect the sound quality and SPL. If the room is large enough, it will be a matter of pushing the amp too hard, not the speakers. If the amp runs out of headroom and it's barely loud enough, it's like towing a semi with a VW Beetle- it's OK after ie gets up to speed on a flat surface (no dynamics) but when you get to a hill (dynamic peaks), it's won't go well.

I'll echo the others. 1) We need to know room size. 2) You really are better off with 7.2 or even 5.2 using good speakers. The Onkyo will at least let you set a different crossover point for the Polks and the Energies which should help.

My basement is about 15 feet wide and 35 feet long but I am going to leave about 10 feet for a laundry room so I may be building a wall there. So I would say the room is roughly 15 by 25. I am only using the subs I have now because I got them for a good price. In the future I am might get either an ed or svs sub. If I am happy with the sound of the 2 10 inch subs I have I would just get the buttkicker because my basement is all concrete so I would probably need some serious power to feel the bass. I am leaning towards getting a onkyo 607. Is it worth getting a 707 instead?

The 607 should do what you want. You can get a refurbished 607 for $330 at accessories for less and put the savings toward the center that you want. With bare concrete walls you may also want to hang out in the room treatment forum and pick up some tips there as well.
