Help with HDMI audio on RX-V367

Greetings! i am new to the forum so please be gentle!

just purchased a Yamaha RX -V367 to use with my Sharp Aquos HD TV etc.

i cannot for the life of me get the HDMIJ connections to have audio without using the red and white connectors from the tv to the receiver thus not providing stereo sound. in other words with just the hdmi there is NO sound at the receiver.

Generally, you need to feed your sources through the receiver first, then monitor out to the TV. Are you receiving the TV signal via sat/cbl box or straight cable from the wall? You'll only get audio from/through the TV to the receiver via stereo analog or digital (coax/optical).

i have a comcast digital box. the cable comes from the wall into the box then out to teh Sharp digial cable input. there is no cable connection on the yamaha.

why doesn't the hdmi carry audio as promised?

Sounds like you need Comcast to come out and bring you an HD box.

You will then need to go HDMI-out from the new HD cable box to the HDMI-input on the receiver.

Then, HDMI-out from the receiver to the tv.

Be sure to select corresponding inputs/outputs.

HDMI does handle both audio & video, but more than likely the HDMI connection on the TV is only used for input, as currently that is generally the case.

Using the stereo analog connections (red/white) you should at least receive stereo audio unless a setting in the TV needs to be changed. If you want surround sound effect, you need to use the surround decoder in the receiver selecting DD PLII Movie (Pg 29).
