Hello everyone, im new here.

I use to have a stereo system in my room but I removed it about 9 months ago b/c I didn’t use it much (all my music is on the computer).

Im considering putting it back in, but this time ill be hooking it up to the receiver.

The receiver I have and plan on using is a Sony-De475.
For the sub I’m looking at the Velodyne vrp-1000.
For the speakers I was looking at the Bose cube stacked speakers, I like the small size of them; but im not sure how they would be with the Velodyne sub.

This system will be going in my bedroom; I won’t be able to have floor speakers.
I guess you can say im looking for some (2-3) small speakers that can be mounted on the wall or from the ceiling. Sound quality is ideal.

I mostly listen to Punk, Ska, Goth, and Techno, high on the bass
This system will be used for 90% music, eventually ill be hooking it to a TV/DVD.

If anyone has any suggestions for some speakers, your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Greg

Stay away from Bose and cube speakers as well, you will be much happier with some bookshelves. How much do you have to spend on speakers?

Just curious,... where were you getting Bose cubes for $200 -$300 ?

A decent pr. of small speakers that "I" think would meet your needs and budget are: RBH MM4 - $260

There are many others, but nothing small is going to satisfy your bass craving :D so a GOOD sub is a must.

No,... the MM-4 is very similar to the MC-4C (which I have had for many years).
except they have a silk dome tweeter rather than the MC's aluminum. I believe they both use the same 4" aluminum mid/bass. The the MM-4 drivers and cabinet are head and shoulders above the AC-51,... as much as I like RBH speakers, I find it very difficult to recommend the AC series.

At that price you can get some decent bookshelves.

Check out the Athena B1.2 or B2.2 at audioadvisor.com
If you have a Best Buy near you they should have some that you could listen to.
Another set to look at are the X-LS from Av123.com
you can get some B-stock ones from av123 to save a little as well

Either one of those sets will beat out cube speakers. Plus in the future you could use them as rears and buy nicer front speakers.

No doubt about it,... but a great many of the good/better, inexpensive bookshelfs are rear ported. For your application I'd suggest you stick with a sealed design, or a well designed front port speaker.

Bookshelf speaker

Check out the Onix X-LS speakers from av123.com. Buy a pair in maple for $200 and pickup one of their UFW-10 subs on sale for $400 with the birdseye maple finish. This would make a killer bedroom system for much less than Bose. If the sub is too much, look at the 8" X-sub for $200.

If you already have the sony, it will work fine for the bedroom. Otherwise, check out the entry level receivers from Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo, and Pioneer.

once again i wwant to say thank you to everyone that gave me their input for this post.

iv concluded that im going to get the Athena AS-B2.2 bookshelf speakers.
i read that they put out nice bass.

i was reading up on some subs and i came across the Athena AS-P4000 & AS-P6000. which would be a wiser sub to buy?
velodyne VRP-1000 -OR- Athena AS-P4000 -OR- AS-P6000

Athena speakers

The Athena (and BIC) bookshelf speakers are a good entry level option ($100/pair) and I had them in my first system.
However, if a Bose system was in your budget, than you can do much better. For example, the Onix X-LS, Paradigm, Ascend, Axiom Audio, etc. are in a price and performance league above the Athenas.

If you can afford a 10" or 12" sub from SVS or HSU, they will also provide a substantial performance improvement.
