Help With Funky JVC Subwoofer

I have a JVC TH-C5 surround sound set, and the subwoofer (SP-PWC5) is going all crazy on me.

It wasn't too bad in when it first started, but now it has become unbearable. Whenever any kind of audio gets too loud (like a scary part of a movie or a good action scene), the subwoofer powers off and won't turn back on until I turn the whole set off then back on. The speakers are also powered by the subwoofer, so ALL the sound goes out until I do the power cycle. I took the sub apart, and it doesn't look like the fuses are blown, but I am going to replace them just in case.

Is there anything else that can be making this problem, in case the fuse replacement doesn't work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's not the fuses. If the fuses where blown or damaged it would not output any sound at all. There may be a short some where, double check your connections and be sure not even the slightlest little bit of cable is touching another (one strand of wire will do it). The output devices could also be wearing down, or some other associated circuit with the power output. A bad relay is another possibility.

Take it in for service. By using it you will do more damage. It either has a power supply problem or an output device breaking down. Stop using it now.

I have the same set. The problem started just happening occasionally as yours is now but eventually it will not even power up. Don't waste your money fixing it - I paid to have it fixed several times. Just invest in a new system or it'll cost more than it's worth and different things will just keep breaking down with the system. It's unfortunate - a great-sounding system. I took to several repair facilities even driving halfway across the state to the only speaker/subwoofer specialists who will actually rewire systems. The cord and wiring in this cannot be replaced. Look up the speaker # on e-bay and all the listings will be for subwoofers with the same problem - obviously a manufacturing defect. The manufacturer will not sell just the subwoofer replacements and I wouldn't recommend buying another of this system.
