My extended warranty company found my Pioneer Elite PRO730hdi 64" RPTV unrepairable. They are trying to say the Mitsubishi less than Diamond series refurb DLP is an equal replacement or to give me 25% of what I paid for the set to begin with. Has anyone had any experience dealing with these companies? I didn't buy DLP to begin with because I didn't like the expense of replacing lamps or the moving parts (color wheel and mirrors) or rainbows. Plus the elite has BNC connections that I use and has more user adjustable controls (chroma, and RGB drive) also the special ISF calibration settings. I would love to hear anyones comments or experiences.

I would say you have to read your extended warranty contract closely to see if they can stick it to you like that. It may be they have it worded to cover what they are trying to do. They also may be interpreting the contract in which case you may have a chance with an argument. If you can get to the part which seems to be the heart of the matter and post it, I would be surprised if there isn't a lawyer among us who could advise you how to proceed.

I would guess that the warranty refers to something of "like kind and quality"....which could be open to debate....but DLP and your RPTV are not like kind.

Curious....how much did you pay for the warranty and the TV new? Perhaps, 25% of the price you paid originally would get you something equal or superior today. Another option might be to just have them refund the entire warranty price....depending on how much it cost.

Thanks for the response Mort. I paid over 4,100.00 for it back then and 450.00 for the warranty. They have been replacing the same part over and over again for a couple of years now and should have done this a long time ago and there would have been something a little more comparable. I won't go DLP, don't want the expense of replacing bulbs or having moving parts like the color wheel. Also I am prone to seeing rainbows on the sets. I know plasma is not the same technology but at least CRT and Plasma are both phosphor based. and the MSRP of both sets are the same $7,000
