I just bought a philips dvp-3010.
It has an Audio Out (Left/Right),and a Coaxial output for digital audio.
I am thinking of buying 5.1 speakers. I am abit mixed up with what I need to buy to have a surround sound. Will any 5.1 speaker set (like the ones for PC) be sufficient, or do I need to buy something specific?
From what i can see, the dvd has a digital decoder.
Thanks for the help

You need a receiver to process the digital audio and power your speakers.

The digital decoder on your DVD player simply downmixes the surround sound information to two channels (Left and Right). It doesn't help you if you're building a discrete 5.1 channel setup.

What's your budget for a home theater? There are many ways of getting this done.

too bad you just bought it....if they have replacement policy, give it back immediately and go for a model which has Dolby Digital/DTS logo on it (for easy recognition) and 6 seperate audio outputs for the 5.1 sound. Philips has some of those models. You can even buy a HTIB, which is like the 5.1 DVD player with all speakers or just buy the 5.1 DVD player now and buy matching speakers later.
