I recently decided to purchase my first home cinema system and after reading numerous magazines and reviews I chose to buy Denon AVR-2803 receiver and Acoustic Energy EVO 3B speaker package bi-wired using QED Silver Anniversary speaker cables. Eventually I am planning to add to this plasma TV and DVD player supporting HDMI technology and Sky + digital box but until then I am stuck with my ageing CRT colour TV, VCR and Sony DVP-NS400D DVD player. I must confess that I know very little about audio or video gear and need all help that I can get. At present my is VCR connected to DVD player using scart, DVD player is connected to TV using scart (RGB) and AV receiver using digital coax cable into which I have connected my 5.1 speaker package. I also have a scart to 3RCA cable between TV and a receiver but more about this later. One of my problems is that I can’t get on screen display to set up my receiver. My TV does not have any other means of connection than scart (i.e. no component, composite or s-video connectors). I have tried to connect my receiver to monitor using S-video to scart cable but nothing is happening. I have also tried to use scart to 3RCA cable but this time using only yellow connector plugged into monitor video out socket but again nothing. Should this work or is there more to this? My second problem is that I am trying to get my receiver to process audio from my terrestrial broadcast and have connected my colour TV using scart to 3RCA cable plugged into TV in connectors at the back of AV receiver. Strange thing about this is that I am not getting any sound for my terrestrial broadcast trough TV source on receiver but instead through DVD? What am I doing wrong
