Sound is good and clear to say I have not had time to spend stting it up yet

My mic came bundled with the 2805 I bought a couple of months ago. I'm surprised you had to pay for one separately.

Ohh...I had the exact same thing happen when I first set it up. Thank god no one was there to see me fumble around swearing at the receiver. :D

I also didn't have the component cable for the receiver to the TV so I had the added frustration of no menu, save for the one on the receiver.

I was initially stumped by how much I had to turn up the volume after getting my 3805 hooked up. I soon realized that there's a lot of range in the volume control, and it's even sensitive to acceleration. The faster you advance the knob, the quicker the volume changes, if that makes sense. When watching a movie, my volume level is usually set close to 0 dB, if that gives you any point of reference.

That's pretty high. It's dependant on many factors like room size and speakers. I have a medium size room with moderately efficient 6ohm Mirage 595is front speakers. Watching a DVD my reference level is -18 (when the kids are not in the room). If I get beyond -14 it's getting very loud. Listening to stereo in direct mode with a CD I'm usually between -20 to -30 depending if anybody is home. When I first setup my receiver I had my RS SPL meter out and at "0" with a Led Zeppelin DVD playing pushed over 100 db (only did it for a couple of seconds). So your "0" does not sound right. I'd recheck your speaker and EQ settings to start.

Ditto what Duffinator said. I have the 3805 and a Rotel RMB-1095 Power Amp. Before I got the power amp I still couldn't listen to music or watch a movie above about -5. With movies or music -5 damn near blows the windows out! I've listened to it at 0 - +5 or 10 before but only for a few seconds. I have fairly efficient speakers at 92db (Def Tech BP 7002s and CLR 2500 Center).

You probably need to do some tweeking with the speaker setup and EQ settings as Duffinator indicated in his post.

It seems to vary a bit, depending upon the source. I did use the Denon auto setup mic (had to buy it separately) and it cranked everything up several dB, but I didn't like the way it sounded. I ended up using a sound level meter and the built in pink noise generator to get the levels where I like them. I also set the EQ back to flat because it made things a bit harsh sounding to my ears (apparently others have experienced the same thing as well). I'm using Vandersteen 2Ci's for my front mains. They're not bad, about 89 dB at one watt/ 1 meter.

Listening Levels

Let's talk about listening levels.

I'm running my Axiom M60s, QS8s, and VP150, as well as a SV subwoofer, through my 3805. EQ is set to off. Fronts and center set to large, surrounds to small, sub to LFE only. Cross-over at 60hz in the 3805, sub cross-over enabled at 60hz. (Don't know if the latter helps, but I did it anyway.)

Digital cable TV (non-HDTV) listening level range is -30 (quiet listening) to -15 (loud).

DVD listening level range is -25 (quiet) to -15 (loud). -10 is the loudest I've ever played.

CD listening range is -25 (quiet) to -10 (very loud).

I've never hit -5 under any circumstances.

Anybody else?

Ok just so every one knows I am running Mirage 350's(4 ohms) as mains a energy AC300(6 ohm's normal 4 ohm min) center and energy ELXR's(8ohm) in the rear I know 4 ohm speakers can be very power hungary and I wonder if this could be part of the problem I will rerun the set up once I get my living room back together as I had to rewire my whole rig I just wanted to test every thing as I dont want to have to pull it all apart again

Well I just pulled out my trusty SPL meter and ran it up to -20 and low and behold I got 100 db out of it:D when the sub fired 88-95 other wise I guess I dont need to worry  just hope it can handle all the 4 ohm speakers

My earing level witn my 3805 is petty the same that Zarg, Duffinator & Bullit 67 have; Movie around -18 , Music (stereo) around -22. My 3805 run a pair of Axiom 80ti as main, one Infinity IL36 as center and 4 Jbl E20 for SR & Back SR + add 2 Jbl PB10 for subwoofer; in a room who is 26X14 with a 7.6 foot ceilling . If I go past the -15 on a well recorded soundtrack, I can't hear any distorion at all, but my kids hair start to move with the soundtrack :p .(not mine...I am bald) so -18 is a good level depending the DVD audio quality recording.

Merry Christmas to all, :)
