Hello everyone, i just bought a 8inch labtec sub from goodwill for 5 bucks. I though it was a good deal so i bought it not thinking about how i would hook it up. It has a weird s video type connector in the back and i wanted to know how i would go about hooking it up. It didnt come with it original speakers and they had the cable going to them so i have no clue what to do. I would include some pics of the connector but i cant figure out how to attach them.

upload them to imgur or photobucket and post links

If you have nothing but that connector - you can throw away that sub

Sounds like a DIN connector, but without the pinout and/or other connector, the best you could do with it is to pull it apart, run wires direct and bypass the connector.

With one post you won't be able to attach yet.

That sub is part of an integrated system and using it alone will require going inside, understanding and tracing all the wiring, and re-engineering it from the ground up. Good luck with that one.

Some stuff winds up at Good will for a reason.

Mr Markw is there anyway i could convert the conector to a 3.5mm jack like other computer subs. I can solder and stuff like that i just want to know if its possible and if so how.

Not easily. That connector has nothing in common with the 1/8" stereo mini jacks other systems use. 1'8" stereo mini plugs have three wires. This connector has nine connections, most likely:

1) 3 to replace that 1/8" stereo mini jack for it's input and
2) 4 outputs, 2 for each speaker and, most likely,
3) 2 more for some dort of volume control, which is most lilely on one of the two satellite speakers. that's just a guess.

Now, which is which is beyond me.

If you could figure out which three are item 1, that would be a start. I don'tthink you would need to worry about item 2, but I have no idea how item 3, if that's a reality at all, would have on the overall picture.

Oh, other "computer subs" are simply the central point for other 2.1 "integrated systems" just like this. They are NOT real subwoofers made to work in home systems. They are made for computers..

That's beyond my pay grade. Maybe someone else could tell you.
