Help with choosing a center channel

I have an issue... I am setting up a home theater in my living room. I already got my tv mounted above my fireplace. I am planning on installing in ceiling speakers with aimable tweeters. I am looking for some reasonable in ceiling speakers and a center channel... HOWEVER... *sigh* The center channel can not be in wall or ceiling due to the way my house was constructed. So I know that I can not match the fronts with the center. Next problem. I only have 5 and 1/2 inches of depth on my mantle. I need a thin speaker that does the trick but won't destroy my wallet. I was also thinking about purchasing these speakers for my in ceiling.

outdoorspeaker depot website... ICE640/ICE540

6 1/2 inch speakers for the fronts and 5 1/2 inch speakers for the rear. I am drawn to them due to the 91db sensitivity.

I was also thinking of this speaker...

Yamaha NS-C225

But it only has a 86db sensitivity...

I am currently powering my cheapy speakers with an Yamaha HTR-6160

Please help me with your opinions... Please keep in mind that I am not on a very large budget.

Thanks...

Welcome to the forum, Floyd! We'll try to help you out, but...
OMG did you read the post at ALL?
isn't the best way to make people want to help you, considering that was your second post ever on here. ;)

BTW, please give this at least until tomorrow morning (and probably give it a bump in the morning). A lot of people on the east coast are already gone for tonight.

Bump

I apologize for the rudeness, but after I had just said "I can't match the fronts with the center due to the construction of my home." I received a one sentence reply that did not answer my question and recommended to match my fronts with my center... It seemed condescending... I am not a fool when it comes to audio. I did my research and chose a nice amp with a nice TV "Samsung LN46A650" and now I need some nice speakers to compliment them. Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my first post. I just need help in choosing a thin center channel speaker with a High sensitivity rating and I wanted to know if anyone knew anything about the in ceiling speakers I was looking at. BTW, I do not have a home theatre store anywhere near me.

The speakers you are looking at will not perform well as mains. In-ceiling speakers used as mains should be able to AIM not only the tweeter, but woofer also at the listening area. This was with proper placement, and calibration you can achieve the illusion that sound is coming from your television, and not the ceiling.

That sounds good. I was looking at those, but the cost to install all 6 for voice matching starts to add up. Would I be ok with those to as my fronts but the rear speakers from the same retailer but a different line, I mean, maybe the ICE 540's? Anyone want to chime in on this?

One more issue

I have settled on the Yamaha NS-C225 for the center. It is an 6 ohm speaker and the other 6 speakers are 8 ohms. I shouldn't have to make any adujustments to the reciever for speaker impedence, unless it overheats correct?

I have to admit, I'm just here for the free beer.

Yeah, you're just fine. You need to level match your speakers. Should be easily accessible within the receiver menu. You can use a Radio Shack SPL meter to help, if you want.

Thank you very much. Well it looks like I am set. I have my reciever and my center channels and it looks like I will be ordering my fronts and surrounds shortly. Thank you all very much for all of your help and again sorry for any rudeness. I am usually pretty good on forums. I will let you all know how it turns out.

This should work fine for you. I don't perceive you having any overheating issues. You'll be in good shape.:)
