Hey, all! I've had a 40 inch Samsung smart tv in my bedroom for a good year now. Recently I decided to jazz it up with a sound bar due to its lackluster built - in speakers. My room is roughly 10x15 ft, and I've got the TV opposite my bed on the far end.
After a bit of research, and not wanting to spend a lot on a small bedroom set-up, I went with the a 38" Vizio soundbar, the s3820w-C0, which I snagged off Amazon for about $80 on special. I didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised by the volume and clarity of the system. My only complaint was the non - existent bass.
To remedy this, I gave in and grabbed a Polk psw10 a couple of days later, which was also a good deal for roughly $100. Well, the sub arrived today, and after picking up a subwoofer wire to connect it, I put it to the test. Simply put, it's great.
So why am I posting here? Well...I'm clueless as to how to calibrate these sorts of things, and I want it to be the best it can be. Here are my questions:
#1: The sound bar came with every possible wire you could need. I went with digital optical. What's better, though...coaxial or optical?
#2: The Sound Bar Has True Volume And True Surround modes. They seem to enhance the sound levels and quality. Should I be using these? Also, for the treble and bass levels. I set them both @ 0. Is that optimal considering I've added an exterior sub? Should I raise the treble to compensate?
#3: I've currently got the sub about 12 inches to the left if my tv. I want to put it in a corner, but due to my bedroom door opening on the right, and my closet door to the left, it's not really possible. With the doors closed, will this still produce reasonable quality?
#4: This is what spurred me to write in the first place. What should I set my low pass and volume settings on the sub at? I ended up putting the volume a little under 50% so it doesn't overpower the soundbar. I just have no idea what to set the low pass at. It goes from 80 to 160hz. I have it set at 80 currently. Is that right? I read that you don't want frequencies overlapping. Does it being set at 8th mean it'll only play signals 80hz and lower? What about the sound bar?
I know it's a lot of questions, so my apologies! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any comments or suggestions in regards to something not mentioned are welcome, too.
Thanks in advance!
