greetings!
I am planning to buy Axiom M80v2 front speakers and on wall Axiom speakers for center and surrounds. After doing lots of research, I decided to by separate amplifier to drive the speakers since they are rated at 4 ohms. In trying to save money I wanted to get:
NAD C272 2 channel amp-to drive the Axiom M80 v2
NAD T955 5 channel amp- to drive center, surrounds and my zone 2/3
Pioneer ELite VSX-23 to be used as a pre-amp only. I though I could use all
the pioneer great features excluding the amp (online price about $550,
which I think is a bargain)

I thought with this kind of set up I can get a decent amp-speaker set up at a reasonable cost. I can get the reciever and the two amps for about $2000 online, not including speakers.

Please help, would I be making the right decision, or is there something else to consider?

thanks in advance

I wanted to do a similar set up a while ago. I am not sure, but double check that the Pioneer has compatible output volume (volts) to match the NAD amps. I have heard of issues in the past. I spoke to Axiom audio in the past and they have mentioned the Outlaw audio amps as being strong enough to drive their speakers. I am sure the NAD's are enough, but I would review the NAD specs with Axiom to make sure.

One option, which is tempting right now is to look at the out going Yamaha RX-Z11. MSPR $5400, can be had for about $1999. on the web by authorized dealer. It should have enough power down to 4 ohm to power the Axiom, in a one piece solution. The Yamaha has the ability to add presence speakers above your mains, depending how exotic you might want to go.

Good luck. I have been thinking of trying to audition the Axiom 80's by trying to find someone near my area via their web site. I am a few months away from changing speakers. I want to hear the Axioms, the new Paradigms, or PSB.

Any of the Denon AVR's will run the M80's just fine.

Since the M80s are the only speakers that need significant amplification, why not just get a 2ch amp for them and let the AVR handle the rest of the channels.

Emotiva has good value for money offerings in the 2ch amp catagory. You can also get a pro amp like Behringer A500, Europower Series, Yamaha P Series, etc.
