I wanted to know if there is a way I can have my amplifier turn on automatically. Right now I have to manually turn it on via the power button on the front of it. I did not know if connecting it to my reciver, which is being used as preamp, would turn the amp on when the reciever was turned on. I am not even sure if this is safe for the amp. Hopefully somebody can give me some knowledge here. Thanks

if you mean the plugs at the back of the receiver ...
I believe those are rated for low wattage units like dvd players, cd players, etc.

plugging an amp into those plugs might not be good for both units.
does your amp and receiver have 12v triggers?

As well as the 12v plugs, many amps can sense a signal being sent into them and take themselves out of standby mode.
12v plugs are the best alternative. Most receivers have them, not all amps do.
DO NOT plug your amp into the back of the receiver. That's not what those outlets are meant for. As Mike said, they are intended for DVD players and other low power components.

If the receiver doesn't have a 12v trigger, another alternative would be to use a power center with switched outlets. Some of them even offer delays or a programmed sequence where the power is applied to each outlet in order; ie the receiver is plugged into one of the outlets and the amp into another and when the power to the center is turned on it will turn on the receiver, delay a few seconds, and then turn on the amp.

The switched outlet on a typical receiver will say right next to it '120v, 1A max' which is definitely NOT for an amp.

I do not think my reciever has a 12 volt trigger. I will probably have to go with a power center. Thank you all for answering my questions. I have found this site to be wonderful when it comes to answering my newbie questions. I have yet to ask a question that was not answered thouroughly and promptly. Thanks again
