First post, so I'm sure I'll mess it up. I ask for forgiveness up-front.
*QUICK HELP. I need to buy in the next few days.
*I'm gonna use my Yamaha RX-V2400 as a preamp. I'm guessing it's softness will translate through the amp?
*RF-5s (150watt max RMS) are a little "crisp"/"harsh" in the horns, but the Yammie helps. Would I need a softer sounding amp as well, like the B&K?
*Looking at the following amps, but OPEN to suggestions in the same price range of about $200 bucks on ebay.
-B&K ST-140
-B&K ST-2020
-Carver TFM-15
-ADCOM GFA 5400
-Parasound 2125
-Any others that you can suggest would match up well with the Yamaha and the RF-5s. I really like the natural sound as it is now, but I don't think I would want it any softer.
THANKS!!!!!

I don't know where you get the idea that Yamaha receivers add any color whatsoever to the audio chain, they don't. Any good amp/receiver will do nothing but amplify audio nothing more. You can make any combination you like from your above selections and should get neutral sound.

Actually, I'm not sure why you would need an amp at all. That Yamaha receiver should drive those Klipsh speakers to ear splitting levels without clipping since they have a sensitivity of 99dB @ 1watt/1 meter.

Thanks for the reply.
I guess I noticed a more mellow and round sound from the Yamaha compared to the Denon when I purchased it. That's what I was comparing it to when I said mellow, or whatever I said
I also listened to the RF-5s with a B&K amp (not sure which) and I thought it gave the same pieces (cuts from Leo Kottke, "One Guitar, No Vocals") a more precise stage and a depth to the acoustic guitar, where I felt I was sitting in-between the frets of his guitar. As I write this, and with your help, I'm answering my question. If the Yamaha doens't add anything, than it will be great with a B&K amp. I'm not necc. looking for more Oooomph. I'm looking for better staging and depth, and overall precision. The Yamaha is great, I'm just an addict always looking for something better.
Thanks

Input sensitivity

I think I'm going with an older B&K ST-140
Looking to match the preout and input sensitivity...
The closest I could find was the Yamaha RX-V3000 (I've got the 2400) It's output to the front L/R (Main) is 1.5V.
The input sensitivity for the B&K ST-140 is 1.1v for max watts.
Will that be a close enough match, or is that too much?

Thanks

Actually, the most effective way to change your soundstage is very simple and free. Simply tow your speakers inward to narrow your soundstage and outward to do the opposite. A new amp shouldn't change your soundstage in any way. You would do far better with altering speaker placement or room acoustics. I hate to sound so negative in regards to buying a new amp but the Klipsch speakers you are using just don't require very much power to sound absolutely top of the world.

If you want to move to separates, I heartily recommend B&K. My dad runs an older ST-202+ and it's a great amp. Remember that you can also do a lot with your sound by playing with speaker placement and room acoustical treatment.
