help with A/V hardware

I'm using a Carver amp (model AV405 with 5 channel) and a Crown pre-amp (model PSL-2 stereo). How can I config my system as a 5.1 surround sound?
What kind of equipment do I need to buy ? Thank you very much for your advice.

Either a dedicated pre-processor or a receiver with pre-outs for 5.1 channels. A mid-priced receiver with pre-outs is more cost effective and may have more convenience features than a dedicated pre/pro.
