Help with a receiver

I want to upgrade my receiver. I have been looking and pricing receivers for the past month now. The more I look the more confused I get. I currently have a HK AVR 125 with Polk 6700 spweaker. My den is smaller and measures 16x16. I am partial to the Harman Kardon and Onkyo receivers I have owned both. I have looked at the following HK 240, 435 and 635 also the Onkyo TXSR603S, TX SR573 and the TNXR801 ( I believe the 603 and 573 have sat radio also). I need some expert advice and I know I can find it here. Local sale people at your local stores are no help all they know is watts. Are there any other amps I need to look at and what would be some good choices from the list above. Any help would be appreciated and would probally save me from making a big mistake.

Hey Danny, what sort of budget are you looking at? Assuming you're looking to replace, do you have a budget that you want to stay within/below? Also, what sort of features are you looking for in other receivers that you aren't getting in your H/K? Knowing these things would help with recommendations. I'm sure you'll get some helpful suggestions once these things are known.

.....Danny, if at all possible, go to a brick-and-morter store and listen to the receivers you are considering pushing hopefully Polk 6700 speakers....you would know when you heard it....you ain't new to this, you know about buying online can save a ton, and none of us have golden ears necessarily, except unto our own purchases, and that's the way it should be.....Danny, I can try again if need be......

the HK 435 is the better buy of the HK choices. I would look at www.harmonaudio.com

they sell refurbs there that have the same waranty as new ones and could save you bucks. I would also watch ubid. they tend to get denon and marantz units there to sell off excess inventory. I got a denon there and saved hundreds and other have gotten marantz, i think 8400, there with a great price. remember to listen and listen and wait for the good deal. impatient people spend more and get less for their money.

wanted to stay around $600.00 but the HK 635 would run me a little more.

Hey thanks for the advice so far. Mulester 7 I will do just that. Just that the local brick-and-morter that sells Hk and Onkyo where I live usually have the flooe standing speakers connected to the good receivers but I plan on checking it out on Sunday. Thanks for the advice and you are correct I have done this before but with all of the new receivers on the market and the different prices you have to be carefull there is a lot of junk out there also and it is very easy to get confused. Thanks again

Corey Smith 01 I believe that the HK sounds best and the older unit I have now sounds great with the speakers I have. Just was asking if there were ant out there better than HK or Onkyo. The one thing I am looking for is pure crisp sound from my receiver or better than I have now. I would hate to give up what I have now for something that is going to be equal or less. I know what I have now is not the best but it sure does sound off with the HK 125. I figured the newer higher amp and digital receivers might perform better. Thanks for your help
