Help with 2.1 system

Please help me put another system together!

Next year (yeah, I know, I think way too far ahead) I'm getting an apartment instead of living in the dorms (as I'm doing this freshman year) so I'm starting to put together a little system for in the apartment.

Because there is no "general system" forum, I figured this would be the best place to post this.

The system will mostly be used for music. It will be used for movies as well, but because it's an apartment I don't need/can't have a very impressive home theater setup, so I decided to just stick with a 2.1 system. It will do the job for movies, and I can spend more money on the monitors for stereo sound (which will be it's main use).

Here is the system I have in mind (with pictures and a link to more info if you are not familiar with the products):

Behringer B2031A Active 2-Way Reference Studio Monitors (2x)
URL: http://www.behringer.com/B2031A/index.cfm?lang=ENG

M&K K-10 Subwoofer (1x)
URL: http://www.mksound.com/subwoofer.htm

Costs:
Behringer B2031A pair: $339.95 @ B&H PhotoVideo www.bhphotovideo.com
M&K K-10 Subwoofer: It's like $600 list, I can get it cheaper of course.

I'm partial to studio monitors and speakers (as you can probably tell from my signature and the above). I want to get active speakers for their benefits as well as the ability to use a pre-amp instead of an amplifier. I have delt with a lot of Behringers PA speakers and felt their quality was excellent. In addition, I have demoed the Truth's and found them to be VERY good for the money. That's how I came to that conclusion.

The Truth's need a sub though. So I want a little sub that will fill the low end. Something musical. So, I kind of settled on the M&K K-10 sub, which has always been an impressive sub to me. It's small and forward firing (I think a down-firing sub would be a mistake in an apartment).

So, run all that through your head and tell me what you guys think of the sound end of it all? What do you think of the monitors? What do you think of the sub choice? What do you think about anything said above :) ?

Now for my big question:

What pre-amp should I use? The system is going to be used for CDs, TV and DVD. Preferably something affordable.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
-Chad

Rotel or Integra Research, Krell (but it's so expensive). The monitors are awsome. Maybe you should try a Velodyne sub (you can get a variety of subs for $600).

I love Velodyne, in fact I have a HGS-18" back home. They just recently came out with that new $400ish VRP line. I should probably check into that. I think it was like $350 for the 10" and $450 for the 12". The real question is how it sounds, I haven't read any reviews or gotten a chance to listen to one.

Just visted Rotel's site. The rc1070 seems like a good option. Don't see any pricing though. I'm sure I'll find some prices when I have some time to search around more later.

Thanks!

Update: Seems people are paying about $500 for it, which is resonable for me.
