hi tech support, i have a problem. i use a soundblaster x-fi xtreme music and a set of logitech z-10 2.0 speakers and a pair of ad700s which i attach to the headphone jack in the z-10s.
i've just noticed that in the soundblaster driver software when it's set to 2.1/2.0 speakers, sound doesn't come out of the left speaker unless i only insert the audio cable jack (the one going into the back of the speakers from the soundcard) half way in. it's exactly the same when i plug the headphones straight into the soundcard and set it to 2.1/2.0, there's next to no sound coming from the left side, but the right side is fine.
however, when it's set to headphones in the soundblaster software it works perfectly in the left and right speaker with the audio cable fully inserted (how it should be). i've tried reinstalling the creative soundblaster software and i've tried messing around with all of the settings but no matter what setting, i have to set it to headphones for it to work properly, now as it's a 2.0 setup, basically the same as headphones, does it really matter? am i wasting this moderately priced setup this way?
sorry for wall of txt and tl;dr, does setting 2.0 speaker system as headphones matter?

Are you running Vista?

And no, the 2.0 setting shouldn't matter. The Logitechs are handling your crossover point anyway, and interally the OS can't tell the difference (at least in XP).

I hate Vista.

nah, i'm using xp pro 32bit sp3.
as long as running it under the headphone settings is exactly the same as running it under the 2.1/2.0 settings i'm cool with that, i just didn't want it to do some weird stuff to it and change the output when it's set as headphone.
