Help w/Panasonic Home Theater system

I have 2 Pansonic plasma HDTVs a 50" TH50PX60u and a 37" TH37PX60u purchased in April 2006 running off one DISH satellite Vip 622 DVR receiver. My Panasonic Home Theater system is a SC-HT940 system that was installed in July 2006. The receiver recently displayed a failure code F61 and inturn was taken to Best Buy for inspection since I had a 4-yr warranty. They sent the receiver off for repair and after 2 weeks determined the unit was uneconomical to repair. They gave me an exchange unit supposedly comparable to my old unit. After I took the box home, I read the specs and determined the exchange unit was inferior so the next day I took it back. I live in a small city in TX and they don't carry a large selection so they didn't have the next higher grade Panasonic model in stock. They finally refunded me my original purchase price and I still have the five speckers but now no receiver.

attempted to purchase a replacement receiver from Panasonic but no success since it seems only full sets are available. The Panasonic SC-HT940 system is supposedly a 1200 W system. The front center channel is 190 W 8 ohm; surround channel 90 W 4 ohm; center ch 60 W 4 ohm; subwoffer ch 250 W 4 ohm all relative to RMS Output power Dolby Digital mode. I looked at the Panasonic SC-PT1050 at a larger store and it has HDMI optical audio input features lacking on my older failed unit. There is also the standard HDMI interface plug.

Any suggestions as to what receiver would be compatible or other thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

That receiver is from a HTIB setup.

It sounds to me like Panasonic reimbursed you for the cost of the entire HTIB and you're hoping to get ahead with the "free" speakers. It's not gonna be that easy or painless.

The fact that the receiver supplies power to the subwoofer says "HTIB" loud and clear. As such, I can't think of any "real" receivers that do that. Only one from another HTIB setup that does that will do that, and I can't think of any that are available separately.

All "real" receivers offer a line level output for a subwoofer, which it appears that your HTIB subwoofer doesn't offer.

To use a "real" receiver you're gonna have to spring for an amp for that subwoofer, or at least a powered subwoofer. ...and this in addition to a "real" receiver.

I agree with Markw.
Maybe on craigslist or eBay you can find a HTIB receiver sold separately.

What is your budget? How much money did they refund you, and how much additional money can you add to it?

If you received $500 refund, you can buy a $200-$300 receiver, and and spend the rest on a cheap sub or sub amp. I'd get a new sub, because the HTIB subs usually are not that good.

Panasonic HTIB

I am not necessarily trying to get by on the cheap with just purchasing a reciever but it seems such a waste to scrap the various speakers. I received back $277.27 plus $126.32 will be credited to my RZ account. This would be reward certificates that will eventually be sent to me that I can apply toward another purchase at Best Buy. It has been about three weeks and no new certificates yet received. Also, the $277.27 was in the form of a gift card at Best Buy. With all of that cleared up, I am willing to purchase whatever appears a best fit for my situation as I can utilize the gift card and reward certificates on tax software or somthing else but would of course prefer to utilize them on a speaker and receiver application.

The subwoofer is a model SB-W940 Panasonic but I don't know the specs on this piece except what is in the Operating Instruction manual that came with the set. It indicates under RMS Output Power: Dolby Digital Mode 250 W per channel (4 ohm), 100 Hz, 10% THD . Under FTC Output Power: Dolby Digital Mode it indicates 250 W per channel (4 ohm), 45 Hz-120 Hz, 1% THD.

I'm not tech savy enough to know if this HTIB system meets the specs you two described. I'm also not specifically tied to a budget althought of course would prefer to utilize my gift card and certs if possible.

The Critchfield link is the set so as you suggested I better pretty much start from scratch. Under the system you suggested, you indicate 6x
ElectroVoice FR12-2 speakers. I haven't yet researched this or the other items but is this 6 each speakers or is 6x just part of the ElectroVoice model number? What amount of dollars would a system like this run?
