I am looking at buying a dvd recorder however i wanted to know if I can keep my Yamaha dvd player and still attach the dvd recorder for recording off my exisiting yamaha and the television?

Basically can I use the two integrated together or does the recorder have to become the primary dvd player.

You can add a dvd recorder, no problem. You just won't be able to connect it to the dvd input if that is where your existing player is connected. You will have to use another av input, like video1.

You can't copy DVD movies using standalone consumer DVD recorders. You have to have a PC DVD recorder using "unwholesome" DVD ripping software.

You can record TV signals and home made movies off DV tapes.

you can copy using a sima copyright protection remover.. they are around 50 bucks.

hook the monitor out on the receiver to the inputs on the dvd recorder, then output the dvd recorder to the tv, so you can record anything that goes through your receiver.

OK, I have a very similar situation. As far as I know, receivers don't do anything with the video signals. They are mainly for audio only. So I have not passed any of my video signal thru the receiver. Here is what I have done:

Cable box video out -. to the DVD recorder video1 in
DVD player Video out - to the DVD recorder video2 in
DVD recorder video out - to the Television
All audio out - to the receiver and
receiver audio out - to speakers :D

As jetyi suggested (I learnt from him :) ), you can connect the DVD player video-out to DVD recorder video-in thru a Sima, which helps you eleminate the copyright protection. I have seen that not all DVDs have this copyright protection. I have already recorded DVDs of Terminal, Friends, Tom and Jerry etc... without using the Sima and it works perfectly fine.

I can hear surround effect but not Dialog from 5.1 copy protected DVD's using sima

I am using a sima ct 200 to undo the video copy protection and it works fine. The problem is with the audio part of the recording. Dolby Digital 2.0 DVD'S records fine.On the 5.1 DVD'S audio recording I hear the surround effects only no dialog. Is there a way to correct this problem?
Thank you,
