Help w/ Denon 4306 and HDMI

Well, I thought HDMI was supposed to be the one cord easy solution. I guess I was mistaken or I'm clearly missing something. I just purchased a Denon 4306 receiver with the Denon 1920 DVD player. Both are to be hooked up to an HP md6580n DLP TV and Klipsch speakers.

My plan is to use HDMI to connect the DVD to the Receiver to the TV. The problem is when I do this I'm not getting sound or a picture from the DVD. Here is the strange part. I am able to pull up the on screen menu to configure the Receiver (DVD is set to HDMI1). While I'm in the configuration screen, I do get audio from the DVD player (I have Polar Express in the DVD for testing purposes). However, as soon as I exit the configuration screen, I lose the sound and still have no picture.

I have connected the DVD directly to the TV and got a picture and sound. I tried this with both cable to make sure the cables were not the problem. I have configured both Audio and Video connections for the DVD to HDMI1 and I have also tried hitting Auto to see if it would detect the settings itself. I'm running out of ideas and beginning to wonder if I have defective equipment.

Any ideas or suggestions? Let me know if additional information would be helpful and I'll do my best to provide it. Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Ok, this just got a little stranger. After fiddling around, I was able to get the Receiver to play the audio and display the image from the DVD player. Everything was perfect. Strangely, the change I made was to tell the receiver that the VDP input was from HDMI1 and it worked.

Here is where it got weird. It worked as long as I didn't touch anything. As soon as I switched to a different device (such as TV or PS2) it would not recognize the DVD when I switched back.

If I change different devices to HDMI, the DVD player will occassionally be recognized by the receiver. However, this only lasts as long as I don't change devices. If I switch and come back, it is gone again.

Has anyone ever heard of this or does it sound like I have a defective receiver?

Well, this problem has gotten a little more confusing. I took the receiver and dvd player back to the store where we hooked it up to a Pioneer Elite plasma tv via the hdmi cables and it worked flawlessly. The only thing I can think of now is there are compatability issues with Denon and my HP Pavillion md6580n television. Unless someone can inform me otherwise. Other than the TV, everything else was the same when I hooked it up to the Pioneer.

Has anyone heard of compatibility issues with certain TVs and Denon Receivers?
