Help w/ A/V sync and Yamaha Aventage RX-A3000

Hello,

I have been noticing the audio coming out of the receiver is delayed. I've been noticing this on all digital sources going through this receiver. To make sure I wasn't making this up, I've output my TV's audio via optical cable to the receiver and tuned in a station on the TV's DTV tuner. Both the TV's speakers and the speakers connected to the receiver are outputting the same audio and there is quite an echo effect. The audio is clearly not in sync.

I know there is a lip sync feature on the receiver but that will only delay the audio further.

Even in Pure Direct mode the audio is not in sync. I don't care what kinds of processing has to go on, you can't delay audio one bit.

What could cause this? This can't be just the way it works. My last Yamaha did not introduce this delay on digital sources.

Please tell me I have something set wrong.

Thank you.

Go to your AVR's OSD (on screen display) and select sync delay. Depending where the setting is increase/decrease the M/S (micro seconds) at 50 increments. This should solve the issue.

Thanks for your input. However, I have already tried that. The delay is set to 0ms yet the audio is still delayed and not quite in sync with the video.

Shouldn't the receiver be able to ouput the audio at the same time as my TV? I mean, if it can't, it clearly is not in sync with the video.

It just seems as if something is off and not quite right.

Does anyone out there have this receiver with audio coming from your TV's built in tuner? If so, could you listen to the audio from the TV speakers and the receiver's speakers and tell me if you notice a delay in the receiver's audio?

Thanks.

I've posted a test that I'm hoping another Aventage (any model) owner could do for me here:

I would like to hear from another owner if they experience the same issue. Hopefully not. I really would like for this to be a defective unit because I can't live with these sync issues but would really like to utilize a RX-A3000.

Thanks.

Just thought I would update this thread with my latest findings.

If I manually set the distance of my speakers to 80ft., the audio/video sync becomes almost tollerable but the digital audio is still slightly behind the analog audio and of course the video itself. YPAO sets the distance to 9.6ft. I only have a 2.1 setup right now but will soon have 5.1 and I'm not sure how having to manually increase the distance will affect my surround setup. If I run YPAO and increase the resulting distances on all 6 speakers equally, will I be OK?

On a side note, when I ran YPAO with my 2.1 setup, it put my sub at 36ft but it is right next to my fronts which were measured at 9.6 ft. What's up with that?
