Greetings!

I was looking at buying a Home Theater at 1000$, found Onkyo HT-S9100THX HTIB, but it is not available in the market now. All stores, websites are accepting back orders only.

I have found good recveiver THX certified Onkyo TX-ST806. But havent found any good match for these receivers.

Found one Logitech 5.1 speaker system but it is altogether 500+ W only. My budget is around 400$ for a 7.1 speakers.

Could some one help me in this. I'm interested in kind of bookshelf speakers small sizer.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum!

You need to allocate more of your budget to the speakers. An Onkyo 706 or 806 to drive $400 speakers makes no sense. If your budget is $1k, I'd look at the 606 (about $350) and spend the rest on speakers. I'd also start with less speakers and add as you go. You will be happier in the long run.

Natalli.

Thanks for your reply.

To go with 606 ( i think u meant TX-SR606). It is not mentioned as THX Certified. (franky im not sure what it really means).

But there is a HTIB available in market Onkyo HT-S7100, i have seen the specs, it is using TX-SR606 receiver. In this case i could go to HT-S7100 HTIB.

I'm concerned it is not gng upconvert all any input signals to 1080p and it is not HTX certified.

Can we feel any diffrence if it is not HTX certified?

Thanks again

Don't use THX certification as a basis for buying gear, especially if you don't even know what it means. Choose the gear on what it can or can't do based on what you need it to do and what features it has. There are two levels of certification for receivers/amps - Select and Ultra. I believe the 70x from Onkyo are Select, and the difference between the two relates mostly to the size of your room and what the amp section is certified to be capable of handling.

I agree with rnatalli, your budget is skewed considerably, as the receivers you are looking at are overkill for the speakers you are thinking about so I would rethink the allocation of funds.

Functionally it could mean very little. In theory a device has to meet a set of specifications and then pay a lot of money for each model that they have certified. But There are many fine receivers that meet THX certification specifications but aren't certified because the manufacturer won't pay up and instead puts the money into quality components.

I'm not familiar with that model but I've never cared for Onkyo speakers. I suggest that you listen before you buy. I would also echo rnatalli's excellent advice and say start with a 5.1 system. You can always add the rear speakers later but they really don't see a lot of use. Without knowing your room size it's really hard to recommend a speaker system. But I do agree with rnatalli when he says that your speaker budget may need to be higher to get even a decent 5.1 speaker system. For example a large room will usually require a larger and more powerful subwoofer.

If you have a good TV it will handle the up conversion. The better TVs do a really good job.
