Help - Subwoofer Pops on Changing Receiver Input Source

The problem started a couple of days ago. I get a loud pop sound from the subwoofer whenever I turn on the AV receiver, change the input source or DSP program. the other speakers are behaving normally.

I have the low level sub out on the revceiver connected to the BFD which in turn is connected to the subwoofer. I have already tried connecting the subwoofer directly (without BFD) and changing the cables. (fyi i am using a yamaha HTR-5750)

Any insights about what might be causing this problem will be helpful.

Thanks,
RT

WOW! This happens to me too... well, not really a loud "pop" sound, but the sub will turn on and click, distort, pop, whatever when you turn the receiver and/or change the sources.

I also have a Yamaha 5750 receiver... this might have something to do with it...

I had that problem with my auto detect on, boudary gain on and volume near max. Turning the volume down on the sub (I don't know why it was maxed to begin with) solved the problem.

It has been suggested to me on another forum that this is most likely a problem with the mute control on the receiver. My concern is that the pop sound is fairly loud with the level meter on my eq sometimes reaches maximum during the pops.

On one of the DIY forums a similar problem was solved using a high pass filter in the 4hz range. I doubt if that will solve the problem as my sub as a built in subsonic filter at 15hz.

jman i noticed on your signature that your sub is dead. hope this problem did not contribute to its demise.

johnd thanks for the input. the volume on my sub is set fairly low (25%). I will check if reducing the lfe level of the receiver helps

Im not sure if that was part of the problem with my sub. This is the second JBL I have owned, and based on what I have seen, JBL amps are very bad and go out within a year.

Another thing that was odd about that sub is it would turn on at random times... like when you changed the channel of the TV - nothing else was on, just the TV.
