Okay, here's the deal -

My amp on my JBL e250p just died while watching a movie today. This happened on my older JBL too - the little green light just fades to black. (Needless to say, its time to move on from that company). Does anyone know if I can put a new amp in this somehow or get a replacement one from Harman/Kardon?

Any thoughts on what I should do? I know its going to be "buy an SVS!" and I would in a second, but im a poor college student, and another JBL sub is only 200 bucks online.

AHHHH!!! I cant watch a movie w/o a sub!

Is it under warranty? Most powered subs are 2-3 years. If under warranty, you should be able to get it fixed for free. Check w/ your dealer, if they don't help, check with HK. Even if out of warranty, check on repair cost.

I had a similar problem. I contacted all involved and found it was not covered by warranty. If it is blown, the cost of getting a replacement was not worth it. it was about 170$ for a replacement amp. At that price I would have gotten the Cadence X-sub (much better numbers and better reviews) for $219.

I decided to wait to get something better down the road. I didnt want to just buy a sub for the time being. I live in a townhouse and my towers have plenty of bass for the time being. considering my living situation, I decided to wait.

If you cant get it fixed for free (or at a minimum) take a look at the Cadence x-sub on u-bid. For the money, It has gotten some high praise around here.

No, its not under waranty. And you guys were right - just under 200 bucks for the new amp - so I wont be spending the money on that.

Today I checked the fuse, sure enough, its blown. Im going to Radio Shack today and picking up a few fuses. However, after reading the reviews on amazon . com for the pb12 (last model year's) it seems that once the fuse blows in one of these, it just keeps happening - no fix in other words.

I still have buddies that work at Best Buy, so im thinking of the Klipsch Synergy 12'' sub - uses a BASH amp, so better than JBL crap I take it... Any thoughts on this sub? It retails for 500 but through Klipsch an employee can get it for 200.

The Klipsch isn't worth even $200 IMO. How much do you really want to spend? How much bass do you want/need?

Okay, the sub is shot...

I listened to the Klipsch - you're right, its not tight at all and just "boomy". Not worth 200 bucks. Im looking at the Athena P6000 - I can get that one with the discount for 150 shipped. What do you think? There are a lot of reviews out there on it that say its good...

I really want to stay under 200 bucks and with the Best Buy discount, its Athena Klipsch or Sony (because im not buying JBL again). What else can I get for 200 or under?

Anyone want a JBL woofer and encosure?
:)

I would look at the BIC acoustech H100. Or get an $80 plate amp from PE.
